pokemon eggs

A popular form of Pokemon spriting is making Pokemon eggs. This is where you take the basic egg sprite, and edit it to resemble a Pokemon. For the tutorial, I'll make a Leafeon egg. So, get the egg out of the sprite resources, and get the Pokemon sprite.

Now, recolor the egg with the Pokemon's base color. Some people like to leave the spots, but I prefer to remove them. Do this by recoloring them as well. Sometimes you need to edit the shading, depending on what Pokemon sprite you use. Now you should have something like this:

Similar to the art of fusing, you now pick out distinguishing features and parts of the Pokemon. However, since it is just an egg, you can't add all of these features to the egg. Pick out he smaller ones and add them instead. First, I'll add Leafeon's ears.

(Advanced Spriters Only) You could easily leave that as your final result, and that's fine. However, if you can, you may now add some finishing touches. This might require a bit of scratching, but only in small parts. For instance, I'd like to add a belt of leaves along the bottom of the egg, like Leafeon has on its neck. I can copy and paste some leaves, and scratch sprite others. To scratch, just observe how the other leaves look and how the lines are drawn. You may also change the shading of the egg so that the leaves look more natural. Now you should see something like this:

No matter which egg ended up as your finished result, eggs are a simple and cute way to sprite.
