site history
If you've ever wondered how Jenviousity came to be, here's a brief history of all the past websites that have appeared on the web, all working up to the one you see today!
Freewebs and Minito
Well, I always have wanted a Pokemon/random things site, and this is what I have managed to get [the fact that it does not completely revolve around Pokemon, but mostly does]. I started out with Yahoo Geocities, which is pretty neat if you don't want to host a lot of images. You see, they have this little limit-thing. If it is below a certain size, its not an image. If it is above a certain size, it is not an image. Seeing as I only wanted to display sprites and graphic banners, you can see where this was a problem. That is why I ended up using Imageshack to link back to my Geocity for every picture I wanted to show. O.o; But, then I saw the light. I found Freewebs. That is how my new site came about, I realized some potential, thought of a cute name, [Minito, pronounced min-ee-to] and became fairly popular with my site. Then, my mom told me that I was getting a host for Christmas! I searched on the Freewebs domain search, and minito.com was taken. So...I decided to change the name of the site. After a bit of thinking, I came up with Pokemon Chibi.
Pokemon Chibi
I moved on from Freewebs to a domain name and a more professional host, Yahoo. This was a paid host, and had a lot of cool add-ons and features. However, other aspects of Yahoo hosting annoyed me. After frequent downtime and Yahoo messing up my layouts, I decided to switch to a "new" host.
Freewebs and Minito (Part II)
Yes, I went back to Freewebs. However, I then had a domain name and a premium account. I prefer Freewebs over Yahoo (for simple sites), and it really is a good host. Back with my original site name, I was pretty content at this stage, and I thought switching back to Freewebs was a good decision. And, actually, it was for that stage of my site...however, it did not have PHP support. So, when I wanted to become bigger with a few more features, I had to move on again.
Minito and Yahoo (Part II)
Freeweb's great for a starter site, don't get me wrong. When I switched back to Freewebs, it was so I could have a site without monthly fees (but still with a domain). The control panel's easier to navigate, it's a prettier site, it's beginner friendly, but it's not good for intermediate or advanced sites. It doesn't support PHP, there aren't many good add-ons, and it's really limited. So, with the inspiration to make a quiz, I switched back to Yahoo!. Now, I can make PHP pages as well as other unique pages. I think Yahoo's a great host for those looking for a very reliable server for a very cheap cost.
Jenviousity and Dreamhost
I became tired of Yahoo. While it's a pretty decent host, it's not really good for what I needed. There aren't many useful features, but I could manage with it. However, I decided it was time for a change, and switched over to Dreamhost. Mainly, I was having trouble getting my domain to transfer, but I think that turned out to be a good thing for me. Since I got tired of waiting for the domain, I went ahead and swapped hosts, leading me here. Dreamhost is a lot better than Yahoo, and I hope to stay here for a really long time.
